Pakistan’s opener Ahmed Shehzad helped his side register their second consecutive victory of the tournament with a brisk 71 off just 46 balls to clinch an eight wicket win over oppositions Karachi Kings on Saturday.
Batting first, the Karachi Kings struggled to put together crucial stands in the first half of the innings and were reeling at 69-4 in the 12th over before a 69 run stand between skipper Shoaib Malik and Ravi Bopara helped them post a total which eventually proved far too less against the Gladiators.
Bopara top scored with a 29 ball 40 and Shoaib Malik made a sedate 37 before both of them were dismissed in the last over. Openers Lendl Simmons (11) and Nauman Anwar (0) failed to provide a start. But, the rescue operation slowly began with James Vince (30) and Shakib Al Hasan (17) until former Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi got the rid of both of them. Anwar Ali also picked up 2 wickets.
Chasing 153 for victory, Quetta got off to a solid start as openers Ahmed Shehzad (71) and Luke Wright (47) piled on 92 runs in just 10.4 overs. Kevin Pietersen’s unbeaten 29 ensured that Quetta completed a victory without the loss of wickets any further.
Hat trick hero Mohammad Amir bowled economically but went wicketless while Imad Wasim and Shakib bagged a wicket each but proved too costly
