Sri Lanka surprised the number one T20 side in Pune in the first of the 3 T20I series as they bundled out India for just 101 in 18.5 overs. Coming at the back of a clean sweep against Australia, India were shocked by the Lankans at home.
The debutant Kasun Rajitha bowled a magnificent first over dismissing the in-form Rohit Sharma (0) and Ajinkya Rahane (4), who came out to bat at number 3 in the absence of Virat Kohli.
The Indians failed to capitalise and lost wickets at regular intervals as Shikhar Dhawan (9), Suresh Raina (20), and Yuvraj Singh (10) fell cheaply.
Adding to the troubles, Dhoni and Pandya were dismissed for just 2 runs each by Dasun Shanaka playing only his second T20I. He had earlier knocked off Suresh Raina’s timber too.
Jadeja got out for 6 to Senanayake as even 100 looked difficult for the number one side.
But, some late heroics from Ashwin saw him take India past the three figure mark. Resultantly he was the top scorer with an unbeaten 31 off 24 balls.
Debutant Rajitha and Shanaka picked up 3 wickets apiece for the Lankan side.
Sri Lanka needs 102 in their limited overs to win the first T20I go up 1-0 in the series.
