India’s star hockey captain Sardar Singh has been accused of sexual harassment by a former England player who was reportedly his fiancée.
Ashpal Bhagol, 21-year old British woman of Indian origin, claims Sardar Singh ‘blackmailed her into having an abortion after they met at 2012 London Olympics and got engaged’ as he threatened her ‘emotionally and physically’.
"We have been in a four-year relationship which was known to all in India and abroad. I met him during the London Olympics and he finally proposed to me during the 2014 World Cup in Hague. He then invited me to his native village where Sardar and his family formally initiated the engagement," she alleged.
"After thisme and Sardar were expecting our first child in mid-2015. I spoke to him regarding this and he said sorry I don't want to have the child and you must abort it immediately otherwise I won't speak to you and there will be no contact.
"So under pressure and him threatening and blackmailing me physically and emotionally, I aborted our child, under the consultation of my parents. After this, Sardar abandoned me," the woman further alleged.

However, Singh, who is playing for Jaypee Punjab Warriors in the Hockey India League, strictly denied any wrongdoing, alleging false claims by his ‘once good friend’.
"I met her before the 2012 London Olympics on Facebook but we never met during the Olympics. We were good friends, she used to visit during the tournaments too," Sardar said.
After last night's match, I came to know about the allegations.”
Instead, Singh alleged that the Leeds resident misused his social media accounts and is now looking to consult his lawyers for this ‘serious allegation’.
“Tomorrow I have a match again. It is a very serious allegation. I will look at the report and consult my lawyer. I will answer all questions but I need some time.'
“I know her but there was no such thing (engagement) between us. Right now I am concentrating on the HIL and will reply to all allegations once I go through the complaint report and consult my lawyer,” Sardar Singh said.

Bhagol, who was the first Sikh player in England u-19 women’s hockey team, lodged a complaint against Sardar Singh at Koom Kalan Police Station in Ludhiana on Tuesday.
Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh Nagra, incharge at the police station, confirmed the complaint, but said the police would register a case only after verifying facts.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner PS Umranangal started a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday to investigate into the matter with additional DCP S.S. Atwal at the helm.
Umranangal said that a “complaint is being verified” and no FIR has been registered.
“The woman has alleged sexual harassment and filed a written complaint against national hockey captain Sardar Singh.
The maternal family of the player lives near Bhaini Sahib and the woman has alleged that they met during visits to this religious sect guru. FIR has not been registered as investigation is going on,” he said.

Born in Haryana, Sardar Singh plays as a center-half for the Indian squad. Now 29, he became the youngest player to captain the Indian team when he took the reins in 2008.
India won the ‘bronze medal’ in the recently concluded Hockey World League final held in Raipur, defeating the likes of Great Britain and Netherlands along the way under his captaincy.
The Indian squad is currently busy with the Hockey India League with Sardara captaining the Jaypee Punjab Warriors squad who are placed third in the table.
If the allegations against Sardara are proved, it will be a serious blow for the captain’s career and India’s hopes for a gold at Rio Olympics in August will receive a major dash
